The Shoreline Rotary Foundation is a nonprofit charitable organization incorporated under the laws of the State of Washington and granted Section 501(c) (3) tax exempt status under the Internal Revenue Code.
Core Mission and Purpose
The foundation raises and manages funds to support programs that align with the Rotary International mission of promoting peace and alleviating suffering.
The Foundation receives and manages funds to promote charitable, educational, cultural exchange, and humanitarian purposes and makes distribution to organizations that qualify as exempt organizations under Section 502(c) (3) of the Internal Revenue Code. The Foundation also distributes funds to individuals pursuing educational programs.
The Foundations key focus areas include:
- Local Relief: Providing support for hunger, illness, homelessness, and education within the Shoreline community.
- Civic Improvements: Funding local infrastructure and environmental projects, such as the Shoreline Rotary Arboretum at Ronald Bog Park and Rotary Park.
- Education and Scholarships: Awarding over $10,000 annually in college scholarships to local students and supporting the educational institutions in the greater Shoreline area through programs like backpack and clothing drives, and teacher recognition.
- International Service: Financing global initiatives, including water harvesting systems in Uganda and housing construction in Mexico, Belize, and Costa Rica.
Fundraising and Governance
- Member and Community donations are the primary source of funding for the club's fundraising activities which gather community contributions to sustain the programs developed annually by Shoreline Rotary and submitted to the Foundation for review.
- Membership: All Active Members of Shoreline Rotary are members of the Foundation. The Foundation is managed by a Board of Trustees elected by the Shoreline Rotary membership.
- Monthly Meetings: The foundation board typically meets once a month to manage assets and review funding requests for community and global projects
